# Gap pass M: Ego Expo, Reload, Papermind, Stain Magazine, Regiedagen (2026-10-05)

Not touched: richting-v9.html, werk.yaml, img/. Nobody contacted. Candidates in `img-candidates/<slug>-m/` (ego-expo-m 7, regiedagen-m 6, reload-m 8, papermind-m 7, stain-m 4), each with `_sources.tsv`. All jpg, max 2000 px, every file viewed on a contact sheet. Zips read with a custom wrapped-offset extractor (single members to /tmp, deleted after); HKU.zip members via `unzip -p`.
Sources used: the five zips; Wayback hellowman.nl (CDX: 444 URLs; pages ego-expo, regie-dagen, work-for-reload-magazine, reload-44/45/46, paper-mind, stain-magazine, reload; the 2007-2008 post images are NOT in Wayback, only 2011 pages); Facebook export (notes.json = his old blog/tweets with dates; two message threads); Studie/HKU.zip `AFSTUDEREN/03 SKETCH/portfolio/portfolio/` (2009 copies of the web images); jl-press-and-talks.md (grad newspaper CV). Instagram export: no hits. Fontanel: not relevant to these five.

## 0. Corrections to what the archive notes say
1. **Regiedagen is Amsterdam, not Utrecht/HKU-adjacent** (chronological-work-index.md:82). His own page: final exams of the Theater Direction course at the Amsterdam University of the Arts; poster says "het Rozentheater, Amsterdam", "gepresenteerd door de Regie opleiding, Theaterschool, AHK".
2. **Ego Expo = HKU 2006 graduation exhibition**, not "?" (chronological-work-index.md:99). Poster text: "Faculteit Beeldende Kunsten en Vormgeving, 22-25 juni 2006, De toren van Babel".
3. **Reload covers**: resonance-map.md:61 says "covers by ZEDZ / Shepard Fairey era". His own captions: logo by ZEDZ, cover artwork by Obay Giant (#43) and Pinkvision (#44). No Fairey mention anywhere. Do not repeat.
4. **Stain Magazine is not "Nijmegen" proven**: the Nijmegen link is only Extrapool (his site: "produced in conjunction with Extrapool during the O.K. magazine festival"). Place of the festival not in any file.
5. jl-press-and-talks.md:100 lists Reload #43 and #45 only; zip and his site show **#43, #44, #45, #46** (plus the 2009 Expo).

## 1. Ego Expo (2006)
Verified:
- Own page (Wayback 14 Dec 2007): "In 2006, the Utrecht Academy of Arts chose this design as winner to be the image for the 2006 exam exhibition named EgoExpo. The invitation. We had to submit our ideas in several rounds, pitching against various other creative teams. This image was a result of a concept formed together with Maarten Geurink, Sjoerd Knibbeler and myself."
- Posters (HKU.zip, jpg 450 px): "EXPO / DE TOREN VAN BABEL / 22-25 JUNI 2006 / Het beste werk van jonge kunstenaars en ontwerpers / EGO / Faculteit Beeldende Kunsten en Vormgeving"; second poster "UITNODIGING / EGO EXPO". Big pen-lettered type over a photograph of embracing figures; circular mark top right.
- Ego Expo.zip (13 entries, file dates 16-17 Mar 2006): 5 scans only: `tekst.tif`, `tekst02.tif`, `tekst03.tif` (hand-drawn alphabet and numerals, pen on lined paper), `TVB.tif` ("DE TOREN VAN BABEL" inked strip), `HKULOGO.tif` (sketch of the circular mark). The finished artwork is NOT in the zip.
- On his grad newspaper CV: "2006 campagne HKU Eindexamen".
Role: concept (as part of a three-person team), hand lettering and type, mark. Photographer: credit on poster too small to read (not Jonathan, probably). Output: poster, invitation, flip side of invitation. Print.
Images: 7. Weak points: both finished posters are 450 px; poster 2 shows a clear male face (third-party model). Best main: 01 (street poster, no face) as small image, or the lettering scans 03/04 (full res, own).
Proposed row: **Ego Expo, 2006. Poster and invitation for the HKU graduation exhibition, drawn lettering.**
Blurb: "In 2006 the Utrecht art school picked this design as the image for its graduation exhibition, Ego Expo. Jonathan developed the concept with two fellow students after several pitch rounds against other teams. The posters and the invitation are built from pen-drawn letters over a photograph. The exhibition ran from 22 to 25 June 2006 under the title De toren van Babel."
Year range: 2006. Risks: poster photo credit and model consent unknown; "picked as winner" is his own claim (no school source); 450 px only.
Open questions: who took the photograph and may it be shown? Is a hi-res poster file somewhere (not in the zip)? Which of the three people drew which letters?

## 2. Reload (2008 to 2009)
Verified:
- Reload = Dutch magazine ("art/music/surf/skate/snow/style/design", cover #43 scan in grid file). His site: "The good people at Reload magazine have asked me to create a typographical illustration for their bi-monthly column written by Nico Dijkshoorn. This was number one." Contact named: Jeroen Smeets (Reload editor; FB thread 2014: "oude RELOAD magazines ... met jou editorial werken er tussen").
- Printed byline in #45 (HKU.zip photo, read at 3x): "PAGINA 48, INHOUD style, TEKST Nico Dijkshoorn, BEELD Jonathan Looman". #46 byline blurry (Tekst Laura Goense, Beeld probably Lowman).
- Per issue (zip dates / blog post date from notes.json):
  - #43: Dijkshoorn column "Legends mijn reet" (sneaker brand "legends"), title "The King of Unknown Legends", stamped red/blue slab letters with stars. Files 29 Mar to 4 Apr 2008; blog "Work for Reload Magazine" 9 May 2008. Cover artwork Obay Giant.
  - #44: column about indoor surfing (doc "surfen"), title "Hollandse natte droom": 3D lettering from coloured paper strips, no cutting, based on a wave shape (his words). Files May to 18 Jun 2008; blog "Reload #44" 20 Jul 2008. Cover Pinkvision.
  - #45: last Dijkshoorn column "Huilende Zigeuner" (the doc is about a kitsch painting and a garden gnome; explicit text, do not quote), ink-drop lettering. Files 8-16 Sep 2008; blog post dated 22 Aug 2008 (earlier than the files: blog date is probably an edited draft; use Sep 2008 from files, flag).
  - #46: "Snow flicks", snowboard film guide (text Laura Goense), black stencil-serif title on cyan diagonal; an earlier version with a mountain photo exists. Files 26 Nov to 4 Dec 2008; blog "Reload 46" 22 Dec 2008. Not a Dijkshoorn column: so his role there is layout + title lettering, not "illustration of a column".
- Zip also holds other Reload layouts (Stay OKAY spread, My Space page, Travis Rice spread) used as grid/brief context in his folders; whether he laid these out is NOT established. Do not claim.
- Fonts in his packages: Lubalin Graph (house body font). `RELOAD_grid_uitleg.pdf` (12 p) = Reload's grid guide.
Leon bought/hung a Fingertype print from that expo ("03_jonathanlooman", still on his wall in 2011). Jonathan's reply: he was not pleased the work was kept without asking. So the Expo is verified as an exhibition including his Fingertype work; whether he showed other pieces: unknown. This thread is third-party private chat: do not quote names publicly. Grad newspaper CV: "2009 Modefabriek RELOAD Expo (jan)", "2008 Reload Magazine" under Opdrachten and Pers.
- Zip folder "Reload - K/01 BRIEF" (Sep 2009) is empty.
Role: lettering/illustration and spread layout (InDesign) for 4 issues, bi-monthly 2008; image credit "Beeld". Output: print.
Images: 8 (4 spreads from layout previews, 1 earlier sketch, 3 phone-style photos of the printed pages, 450 px). Print photos have a hand, no face. #46 sketch (05) uses a third-party mountain photo: not main.
Proposed row: **Reload magazine, 2008. Typographic illustrations and spreads for four issues of the Dutch magazine.**
Blurb: "In 2008 Jonathan made the title lettering and layout for four issues of Reload, a Dutch magazine on art, music and street culture. For three of them he drew the opening image for Nico Dijkshoorn's column: stamped letters, letters folded from paper strips, and letters made of ink drops. The fourth issue carried a guide to snowboard films. The work was shown again at the Reload Expo during Modefabriek in January 2009."
Year range: 2008 to 2009 (row could say 2008 with the Expo as a note).
Risks: Dijkshoorn's column text is the author's and #45's text is explicit: show only the lettering, crop away body text; magazine layouts contain other people's photos (Travis Rice etc.); cover art is other artists'; Expo details rest on one private chat; blog date for #45 conflicts with files.
Open questions: did he do all four issues' layout or only the opening spread? Was #46 title his idea or Reload's? What did he show at the Expo besides Fingertype? Is Reload still around and is credit/consent needed from Dijkshoorn?

## 3. Papermind (2010)
Verified:
- His page (Wayback 22 Jun 2011): "For a pan European initiative called Paper Mind. We were asked to participate in the exhibition which was organized in Amsterdam. For this project every participant was assigned a typical dutch phenomena like a saying or product. I collaborated with Gwenda Jakobs we created a stencil print that depicted the traditional cuisine of eating pickled herring and. The expression Tjonge jonge jonge." (text ends mid-sentence in the archive).
- FB tweets (notes.json, hellowman): 6 Oct 2010 "@GwenJakobs and I are contributing to the papermind edition Amsterdam", 7 Oct "This friday grand opening Papermind Amsterdam", 8 Oct "Don't forget tonight : Paper Mind Amsterdam" (all link to typographicartstuff.com, a blog of his; not archived). So **opening Friday 8 Oct 2010**.
- PAPERMIND.zip: A3 PDFs dated 5 Oct 2010 (InDesign CS4), `jonathan/02 SKETCH/001-005.psd` (2-4 Oct 2010, a herring on a laid table collage, inverted/greyscale iterations), `Gwenda_Jakobs/` (monorood/zwart layers, X registration marks). Web photos: the herring/table print is filed as "papermind-looman", the photograph-collage with zigzag "Tjonge jonge jonge" lettering and red X marks as "papermind-Jakobs". So the herring piece is his, the other hers; the pair is one joint submission.
Role: designer of one of two stencil-style prints, jointly with Gwenda Jakobs. Output: exhibition prints (A3, black plus red).
Images: 7 (2 web photos 438/904 px, 1 pdf render, 4 sketches 711 px). Third-party: the collage uses found vintage stock images (table, fish, cutlery, butterfly); fine as process but flag. Gwenda's piece deliberately left out.
Proposed row: **Papermind Amsterdam, 2010. A two-colour print for a European paper exhibition, made with Gwenda Jakobs.**
Blurb: "Papermind was a European exhibition on paper. For the Amsterdam edition in October 2010 each participant was given a Dutch phenomenon to depict. Jonathan and Gwenda Jakobs each made a two-colour print; his shows the pickled herring on a laid table. The opening was on Friday 8 October 2010."
Year range: 2010. Risks: organiser and venue unknown (not in any file); "pan European" is his wording; found images in collage; joint credit with partner (Since Today audience).
Open questions: who organised it and where was it shown? Was the final print 2 colours (black plus red)? Which Dutch phenomenon did Gwenda get (probably the "Tjonge jonge jonge" piece, confirm)? Are the stock images licensed/public domain?

## 4. Stain Magazine (2010)
Verified:
- His page (Wayback 22 Jun 2011): "Stencil prints produced in conjuction with Extrapool during the O.K. magazine festival. Subject is 'NOW' the moment between the past and the future. Made in collaboration with Gwenda Jakobs". Image filenames "Stain_Magazine_SinceToday".
- Zip (file dates 15-17 Apr 2010, folder dates to 2017): `01 BRON` (quotes by Jefferson/Einstein, Beatles "Yesterday" lyrics, text from "Practicing the Power of Now" and a NOW rtfd, found images), `02 SKETCH` (4 InDesign grids), `03 PRES/SPREAD 01` (spread 6-7 "That was today / Tomorrow"), final spreads photographed (cover "Stain magazine, here and now", NOW masthead, red/navy two-colour spreads with "Freeing yourself from your mind", "How to stop creating time?"). So the object is a small printed magazine/zine on NOW, in two-colour print, not only loose stencils.
- Resonance-map says "Extrapool Nijmegen": Extrapool is a Nijmegen print studio, but no file states the location; unverified from the five sources.
Role: design (layout, type, stencil/print prep) together with Gwenda Jakobs; split of work not stated.
Images: 4 (3 web photos at 593/438/282 px, 1 rendered spread). Weak: low resolution; hi-res photos not in zip. Third-party: vintage NOW magazine cover (scanned), moose photo, sunset photo, headstone and other source images in `images/`; `now_front.jpg` deliberately excluded. Quotes and text are third-party.
Proposed row: **Stain Magazine, 2010. A two-colour printed magazine on the theme NOW, made with Gwenda Jakobs and Extrapool.**
Blurb: "Stain was a small magazine printed in stencil style during the O.K. magazine festival, together with the print workshop Extrapool. Its subject was NOW, the moment between past and future. Jonathan designed it with Gwenda Jakobs in spring 2010. It is built from red and navy layers, found images and quotes on time."
Year range: 2010. Risks: found imagery and quoted text; "magazine festival" wording from his site only; edition size, festival date unknown; the blurb should not say Nijmegen.
Open questions: when and where was the O.K. festival? Print run? Which spreads are his versus Gwenda's? Original photos of the finished magazine in higher resolution?

## 5. Regiedagen (2006)
Verified:
- His page (Wayback 14 Dec 2007): "This poster was designed for the 'Regie Dagen 2006.' These are the final exams for the students of the Theater Direction course at Amsterdam University of Arts. This year we broke from the traditional flyer/leaflet and were able to find the money to get it printed on as A1 size poster. It is a combination of two separate graduation pieces and moulded into one image with additional information about the days."
- `alle info.txt` (3 Jun 2006) and poster text: Rozentheater Amsterdam; VINEX by Thibaud Delpeut 18-21 June; BECKET (Jean Anouilh) by Tallulah H. Schwab 29 June to 2 July (2006 per file name regiedagen2006). Presented by "de Regie opleiding, Theaterschool, AHK", www.regiedagen.nl (do not publish names of the directors/cast without need).
- Zip files 29 May to 9 Jun 2006: type tests (`logotest.ai`: ten fonts, `logotest02.ai`: green bar), yellow and blue poster versions, `scan-foto` (own photos of a physical collage with yellow tape strips and a plate "41", EXIF Nikon D70 date 3 Jun 2005 = camera clock one year off), `schets.psd`, `bijnaklaar.ai` (93 MB), `regiedagen2006.eps` (306 MB, not opened).
- Source material from the two productions (Vinex promo photos "41" plate with wires; Becket flyer/poster with a paper bag over a head, files "Tallulah Flyer-LC.pdf", "Poster A3-LC.pdf") = third-party design. Poster 'LC' meaning unknown.
Role: poster design and word mark (slab-stencil face on blue bars), combining two productions' images. "We" on his page leaves open whether someone else co-designed.
Output: A1 poster (his words), print.
Images: 6. Main 01 `bijnaklaar.jpg` 1000x1400 (near-final); the final jpg is 429 px. The poster's two images are the productions' photos (the 41-plate image and the paper-bag man), not his: poster is a composite; no face visible. 06 is his own photo of the collage.
Proposed row: **Regiedagen, 2006. Poster for the graduation performances of the Amsterdam theatre direction course.**
Blurb: "Regiedagen are the final exams of the theatre direction students in Amsterdam. For the 2006 edition the programme broke with the usual leaflet and was printed as one large poster. Jonathan combined the images of two graduation productions into one picture and set the programme in a heavy slab face on blue bars. The poster announced two series of performances in June and July 2006."
Year range: 2006. Risks: images belong to the two productions; names of directors and actors in files (not in blurb); "A1" and the funding sentence are his words only; school's current name differs (Theaterschool, AHK).
Open questions: was the poster his alone? Who is "LC"? Did he get clearance from the productions for the images? Which fonts (type tests are third-party faces)?

## 6. Cross-cutting
- Facebook thread contents (Leon de Raaff, Jeroen Smeets) are private chats: facts only, no names or quotes in the site.
- Gwenda Jakobs appears on Papermind and Stain: needs her consent per the Gwenda-visible rule before showing.
- Addresses and phone numbers (his old site footer, venue streets on the posters) not repeated here; Ego Expo poster shows the school's address and a poster-frame phone sticker: crop or skip.
- All five zips contain dozens of large tif/psd/eps (CMYK) that ImageMagick/sips render with wrong colours; I used pdf/ai/jpg previews and the web photos instead. If better images are wanted: render `Reload 44/nattedroom5.psd`, `Reload 45/illustratie_def01.tif`, Stain `FINAL-SPEAD-6-7.psd` with Photoshop and proper CMYK profile.
- Row order suggestion by year: Ego Expo and Regiedagen 2006 (student era), Reload 2008 to 2009, Papermind and Stain 2010.
